Chayote
February 7th, 2006
Have been buying chayote for years now and I think I have always tried different recipes, but none of them really made the trick. I guess I just like the way they look, so I keep buying and trying a new way of bringing them to our table. Tonight’s recipe was the one for us! Spicing it up a bit, using a bit of fat. Hmm.
If you also wondered how one can cook with those vegetables, you can give this recipe a try maybe?
Ingredients:
- 2 chayotes
- 1 cup of half anf half (or evaporated milk, or cream & milk mix)
- 1 tsp chili sauce
- 1 tsp curry
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 Tbs olive oil
- 2 cloves of garlic
Wash, peel and cut the chayotes in lengthwise, about half an inch width. Toss the oilve oil with garlic, cook a bit and add the rest of the ingredients and cook for about 15 – 20 minutes. That’s it!
Bon Apetit!

fethiye’cigim,
the one on the left looks like a toothless elder! a very old granny.. a sweet, loveable one. gönül paksoy used chayote in one of her wonderful dishes. I cannot remember which one, there was a lot really!

That’s one cute Chayote. :), love the second photo. :)
We also cook it the same way except for milk, good sidedish for rotis/pitas etc.,

Fran, I hope you like this recipe.
Tijen, those are so similar to Sam’s words :) :)
Indira, one of my closest friends, who happens to be Indian, thought me how to use this vegetable but as you said she was not using milk, too.
