A Summer Classic — for me, at least
June 25th, 2006
Since summer officially started on June 21st, we got our first 100F+ weather in the Sacramento region and seems like it is here to stay for some time. This weekend it danced around 105F+. So, what did we eat: watermelon + feta cheese + grapes. This trio has been my favourite for the lunches during summer heat. Sometimes only grapes and feta, sometimes watermelon and feta. But there is always my feta! If you cannot think about eating feta cheese with these fruits, I’d suggest you give it a try. Juicy watermelon and/grapes contrast the salty cheese. Who knows, you may like this combination too. I have a suggestion on the choice of the feta cheese though: go with full fat Turkish or Bulgarian ones. They are available in Middle Eastern stores locally or online. And if it is too salty for you, leave the chunk of cheese you will be eating in water for a while (even 10 mins would do it) to rinse off some of the brine.
And what was there to drink? Suntea!
Good luck with the heat, whereever you are. I will be back with a recipe when it cools down soon. That is, down to mid-90s!

I like all three foods but I’ve never tried them together in a combination. I can’t wait to do so!

I saw your watermelon and it reminded me that I have one in my fridge I have to cut open. Thanks
