Can you recognize this flower?

These are flowers of a vegetable that comes in many different shapes, sizes and colors. Having said that there are no 30 varieties that I know of; maybe 5 is well known?
I was impressed by the look of the darker one, shown above, when I first saw it. Growing in our backyard now. Can you recognize what they are?

fethiye’cigim,
it’s hard to believe those huge eggplants come after these lovely flowers isn’t it?
are they in your garden? few years ago I tried to grow them. the plants were fine and healty, the flowers were beautiful but the fruit didn’t come.. anyways my tomatoes are lovely this year, although cucumbers are too lazy for fruiting.

Unless I am mistaken, that looks exactly like the eggplant in my garden! Lovely pictures! I have been picking them when they are still babies & roasting them in olive oil. I have a few tomatoes on the vine but no new ones as it is too hot for them to set here in the desert. The plants still look great. Heat doesn’t seem to be a problem for eggplant. In fact, my plant is one I planted a year ago in the spring.

Yep, they are eggplant flowers.
Sam, borage flower is more blue than these purple ones, and it is slightly smaller.
Tijen, we have so many of them on the Japanese eggplant plant! The other one (usual variety) is now beginning to fruit. :) My cucumbers are also very lazy for fruiting! Tomatoes are just ripening.
Fran, I am amazed that your eggplant survived the winter. Yes, they love the summer heat and I bet they grow nicely there! Enjoy the beautiful crops you get.

Orchidea, isn’t it amazing how nice these flowers are? One more reason to grow and eat eggplant! ;)
Melissa, I have never seen a passion fruit flower, is it purple as well? Pumpkin flowers are usually yellow — never seen any other colors.

Those are some pretty flowers for a vegetable to come off of. I have never grown eggplant but I currently have lettuce, broccoli, tomatoes, and a nice mix of hot peppers. The peppers have some nice blooms to although they are white.
